Statewide reproductive justice groups COLOR AF and Cobalt recently announced their endorsements of Michael Bennet for the US Senate. These endorsements recognize Michael’s history of supporting legislation in Congress that protects a woman’s right to choose.
“Michael’s campaign is energized to have support from Colorado organizations who are protecting Colorado women’s right to choose, says Bennet for Colorado spokesperson, Georgina Beven. “While Michael fights to protect Coloradans’ right to choose in the Senate, COLOR and Cobalt are doing amazing work in our state, and they share Michael’s position that the decision to have an abortion is between a woman and her doctor, period.”
Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights Action Fund (COLOR AF)—a community-rooted organization working around the state to enable Latino families to lead safe, healthy, and self-determined lives—endorsed political candidates in Colorado for the first time this year as reproductive rights are being attacked from all angles.
“COLOR Action Fund appreciates the leadership of Senator Michael Bennet throughout the years, and his continued commitment and advocacy for reproductive justice issues and policy. We’re excited to work together and get him re-elected to the US Senate and continue our partnership together as he works to expand access and remove barriers to abortion care,” said Christina Soliz, Political Director of COLOR Action Fund about Michael’s endorsement.
Cobalt—a non-profit organization dedicated to securing and protecting reproductive health rights for Colorado women—endorsed Michael’s 2022 Senate run early on, citing his leadership in the US Senate for championing Colorado values and abortion access.
“Cobalt endorsed Senator Bennet early because he has long been a champion for abortion access and reproductive rights. With Roe hanging in the balance, Colorado needs a Senator like Michael Bennet who will always be an advocate for our Colorado values on reproductive freedom. We are proud to support him and his re-election,” Karen Middleton, President of Cobalt said of the organization’s endorsement.
Recent months have proven that reproductive rights are under attack across the United States following the leak of Justice Samuel Alito’s opinion draft, which showed the Supreme Court’s intent to overturn Roe vs. Wade. For women in Colorado, the Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA) enshrines a woman’s right to choose into law, but many states around the country don’t have this abortion access protection should the Supreme Court decide to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
As Colorado’s US Senator, Michael will continue fighting for quality health care and abortion access in the Senate so all women in the US have this protection. The candidates battling it out in the primary to challenge Michael’s Senate seat this November both threaten abortion rights, with one opposing Colorado’s law codifying Roe, and the other aiming to ban abortion with no exceptions for rape or incest. “So much is at stake this election year and Coloradans need to elect pro-choice candidates who will fight to ensure reproductive freedoms are the law of the land,” explained Georgina Beven, Bennet for Colorado Spokesperson.
